Call for Applications to a 3-year Ph.D. Program Fellowship in Landscape Planning & Disaster Resilience at Victoria University of Wellington.

Professor Victoria Chanse invite qualified applicants interested in applying for a doctoral fellowship on landscape planning and disaster resilience, commencing on campus no later than April 2025, at Victoria University of Wellington in Wellington, New Zealand. Unfortunately, only one fellowship is available at this time.

The doctoral programme is a 3- year program. The dissertation will be by publication.

The research area for this fellowship is focused on how spatial planning and landscape design minimize the impact of natural disasters and facilitate efficient recovery in disaster resilience by shaping the physical environment. Specifically, the dimensions of this project include assessing the potential of design and planning of coastal and ecological infrastructure in the context of earthquakes and tsunamis in Aotearoa New Zealand.

Special consideration will be given to those applicants with demonstrated skills in GIS, landscape architecture and the potential to publish.

The doctoral fellow would be part of a large, interdisciplinary group of researchers (students, academic staff and others).
The scholarship will cover NZD$35k stipend + $8k fees per year. Funding is for three years, 2025 – 2027.
