The Uncertainty Quantification, Learning, Inference, and Design (UQLID) Lab at Northern Arizona University’s Department of Mechanical Engineering is excited to announce an immediate opening for a fully funded Ph.D. position. This position offers a monthly stipend and support for conference and workshop travel. If you have a Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Mechanical, Civil, Aerospace Engineering, or Engineering Mechanics, and expertise in scientific machine learning, multi-fidelity methods, computational mechanics, and uncertainty quantification, we invite you to apply for this exciting opportunity.


Position: Ph.D. Student

Research Area: Multi-fidelity Methods for Scientific Machine Learning (SciML)
Location: Northern Arizona University, Flagstaff, Arizona, USA
Start Date: Immediate

Eligibility/Qualification:

Candidates should meet the following criteria:

  • Educational Background: Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Mechanical, Civil, Aerospace Engineering, or Engineering Mechanics.
  • Expertise: Experience in one or more of the following topics: scientific machine learning (SciML), multi-fidelity methods, computational mechanics, and uncertainty quantification.
  • Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Job Description:

As a Ph.D. student in the UQLID Lab, you will:

  • Conduct research in the field of Multi-fidelity Methods for Scientific Machine Learning (SciML).
  • Collaborate with a dynamic research team to advance the understanding of SciML.
  • Contribute to cutting-edge research in computational mechanics and uncertainty quantification.
  • Present research findings at conferences and workshops.
  • Pursue a Ph.D. degree in Mechanical Engineering at Northern Arizona University.
