About the Department: The Department of Geography and Regional Research is Austria's oldest and largest geographical institute. With over 90 researchers and 3,600 students, our interdisciplinary approach addresses major societal challenges.

Project Overview: You will be part of the "Cultural Heritage in Motion: Indigenous Knowledge and Mobile Livelihoods in Changing Climates (CuHeMo)" project led by Dr. Simon Bunchuay-Peth. This project, under the Trans|Form research ground, explores the adaptation strategies of agro-pastoralists in Ethiopia to climate change through qualitative research.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Develop and complete a dissertation on climate change adaptation and indigenous environmental knowledge.
  • Conduct scientific fieldwork and participate in project activities.
  • Assist in research proposal preparation and third-party funding acquisition.
  • Engage in administrative tasks and scientific communication within the working group.

Requirements:

  • University degree in (human) geography, anthropology, or related disciplines.
  • Proficiency in qualitative social research and/or participatory methods.
  • Willingness to conduct field research in Southern Ethiopia.
  • Experience in qualitative content analysis preferred.
  • Fluent in English, with intercultural team skills.
